Prompts:
1- Analyze the impact word choice has on the meaning or tone of a text.
2- Analyze how dialogue or specific incidents reveal information about characters. Make sure to include textual evidence
In Insurgent there is a lot of word choice that impacts the the tone of the text. Fist, they use the words bewildering, and immediate, this shows me that the tone of the story is urgent. Another example is when a little later into the story they used the words narrow and suspicious which also conceals that the tone could be dangerous. Last, the author uses the words wasteful and illogical. These words show me that the tone of the text is negative because the word choice are somewhat making fun of something. So, I know that the word choice used in a story, including insurgent, gravely effect the tone.
Also in Insurgent, I learned that the dialogue reveals a lot of information about the characters. First, one of the characters, Eric, stated that "My orders are to take you two back to Erudite headquarters" this shows me that Eric is very obedient and follows orders given to him. Another good example is "the city is so quiet in the morning that the footsteps echo as they approach the bridge" this shows me that the city is very peaceful. In the end, I know that the dialogue of the characters effects the characterization.
Both components help me understand the story more than without them. Word choice has always have been one key component in helping me develop the tone of the story. The dialogue helps me know what the characters are like. So, both of these key components are very important in developing the story.
