This week for my blog, I read the book The Ugly One, read this book due to a suggestion from my sister becuse she said it was great, and it was! I have not read any historical fiction in a very long time, but this novel was special, it was the first historical fiction book I have read on native indians, Incan people to be exact. It was very interesting because I a lot of new things! I never knew all of the many Incan customs, now, I do!

Obviosly, the setting of this book is the Incan empire, but there is many specific places there included. First, is the Sacred Sun City, this is a very important place in this book because it has a lot of purposes between many of the characters. Another important setting is the Winay Wanya, it is a spiraual place where all the shamans meet. The most important place is Micay's rock, which is a houca, a special sprit rock. Still, there are many important settings, but I feel that these were the most important ones.

One of the characters, Ucho, changed so much throughout the book! At the beginning he bullied Micay about her scar and was very very mean! In the middle, he was also a bit mean, but he seemed to be a kind of nicer to her. (*SPOILER COMING UP*) At the end, he starting being very nice to Micay and they became great friends. This really shocked me because I have never seen the antagonist change that much! In conclusion, Ucho's feelings toward Micay changed throughout the story.

I comented on Rebecca, Diana, and Devin's blogs this week.

  1. Great job! I liked how you did your paragraph about what you thought about the book. I saw a few typos in there but other wise it was really good. I liked how explained how the characters feelings changed through out the book. I just thought you should have added why the places were important to the people.

  2. I thought you did a good job describing the character's changes and the settings. In the beginning I think you meant to say "I read this book" instead of saying "read this book". Other than that, really good job!

  3. Great job in this book. I agree that that character changed a lot. Also I like how you added more than one setting in the second paragraph.
