2014 Reflection - The First Time I Wen't Skimboarding 1/9/15

Prompt: When was the last time you did something for the first time?

Over winter break I went to Florida with my family and a few days we went to the beach. The first day at the beach I saw some kids on this weird looking board gliding around the shore. After watching them for a while I really wanted to try it. The next day we went back, but to a different beach and I asked my mom if we could go the the surf shop and see if they had those boards there, after a little while I convinced her to come there with me. When we asked the person at the checkout of they had boards like that they said "yes" and lead my mom and I over to the place where they kept those boards. I soon found out they the boards were called skimboards! I begged my mon to let me get one and after she talked to my dad she said yes! My dad took me back to that surf shop and we pricked up a rainbow colored one and got some tips on how to use it correctly. At the check out they handed me some board wax and we went back to the beach to try it out!

When we got back to the beach we took out the wax and waxed the board. Then, my parents, couisns, aunt, uncle, sister, and grandma headed over to an open part of the beach where I could try out the skimboard for the first time. I learned one thing, it is not as easy as it looks. For a while I fell really hard onto the rocky shore of the beach. Then, a someone came up to me and my dad and said she used to skimboard and she could give me some tips, well those tips turned out to be an hour long lesson! After that I was starting to get it, even though sometimes when I would try to jump on the board I would jump right over it. When that hour passed we had to go back to my grandparents house. I was really sore and tired. I even still have some cuts on my hand from falling so hard! The next day when we went back to the beach I was able to do it way better than the last time. I could   really get on the board and glide across the surf! I was so proud to be able to complete my goal of being able to correctly skimboard by the time we left Florida

Sadly, I will not be able to skimboard again until this summer when I go to Canada. My board is currently in Florida right now which will somehow get to Canada. We did not want to check it at baggage claim because they are very reckless with the luggage (I even saw them throw a box labeled "fragile" into plane) ,so I thought it would be best to leave it there for now. I have learned a lot from my first time skimboarding and I can't wait until the summer to be able to do it again!
