Epals Global Collaberation Reflection

Epals Global Collaboration Reflection

The years before seventh grade I had a very low level of global awareness and I knew little about the world around me. I mean sure, last year I went on Tweentribune and read unimportant current events, like how people are using the new selfie stick. Really though, I was missing out on the real situations going on throughout the world. When I came into seventh grade I was shocked to know that a violent disease, like ebola exists or isis was terrorizing people through the Mid-East!
When we started our collaborations, it urged me to learn more about all the things I was missing out on! Some days I will find myself researching countries around the world to learn more about their cultures! I have never knew that some a lot of things happening in their countries existed until now. Even learning about their schools shocked me! I wish I could travel to see more of the world. If we never started our epals collaboration, I would have kept shrinking.
My perspective on cultures completely changed because of all the new things I learned. When I showed my family the videos of Sweden and India, they were surprised by their lifestyles and schools! I am sure their perspective changed too!  I was so excited about using epals, that I am helping my mom set up her own epals collaboration for her students! She teaches special ed and she thinks that it could also help teach her kids about the things going on in the world.
The most shocking thing I learned was that their schools are a lot like ours! Everyone tells me that a lot of cultures are a lot like Americans, but really each culture is different if its own way. For example, They do many daily activities that we don’t do. Like, taking off their shoes or wearing over the top uniforms! Either way, I learned many shocking things about their cultures.
